8 days ago on a Sunday morning I met Tõnu Samuel in a Tartu café and showed him various documentation plus we discussed a number of the unsubstantiated allegations and rumours about altex and spamming.

Since then we have sent him further documentation he requested.

Following this were a couple of emails and yesterday a breakthrough phone conversation.

As a result Tõnu agreed to withdraw his posts about altex.

I would like to thank him publicly for taking the time to look deeper and to review his position and agree to take down his posts.

For us the matter is now closed and we are pleased also to announce that subject to final confirmation that Tõnu has also agreed to speak at e!Späm next March. (edit: correction nov 3: it seems I misunderstood Tõnu. he will not speak at e!späm. See comments below)

As I stated in my original post about the legal case:
“..we actually approve of what Tõnu is trying to do in that we agree that spammers should be named, shamed and, where possible, prosecuted.”

We will, as a result of this issue, work harder in the fight against spam because actions speak louder than words and for provoking that I owe Tõnu thanks.

We support Tõnu’s blog and encourage him to focus his fight against the real and persistent spammers in Estonia and we will support him how we can.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

I obviously misunderstood Tõnu, my apologies.
I hope you reconsider, I am sure many people would enjoying hearing what you have to say.
    The door is open.

And today i received a spam e-mail through epostel.eu which belongs to someone called “Altex Marketing Oü”. If you will prosecute everyone who calls you a spammer, then what should we call you?

@jaanus pls report the details of this to meelis@altex.ee
The terms of usage of epostel clearly state people can only use it to send to opt in lists.
If someone has breached this rule then their account will be terminated.
We have to trust clients to follow the rules but if they don’t then we kick them out.

You have to think of something more preemptive than terms of usage if you offer a service that allows free registration of accounts for sending spam (at least so it seems). How will that help if their free account is terminated? Someone will register a free account tomorrow and send spam again.

    The spam in question:

And by the way, i see nothing in the way of terms of service that would even mildly discourage sending spam on http://www.epostel.eu

“And by the way, i see nothing in the way of terms of service that would even mildly discourage sending spam on http://www.epostel.eu

We have a very strong policy towards list usage - it’s displayed before you can add any addresses/lists to your account (not before registering for obvious reasons - people tend to forget).

Yes, you can register a free account but the sending limit is 25 emails per send (and no more than 250 emails per month), so I don’t think spam is an issue here.

BTW: we have investigated and decided to terminate Heli Vahing FIE’s account. Thank you for reporting this to us.
