Tõnis Hinnosaar & Epp-Kristina Keerov M IDM join the altex board
2007 was another successful year for altex.
We our achieved our turnover target of 100%+ growth (a sign of the spiraling demand for internet marketing, as opposed to just banner ads), made a healthy profit (all reinvested as it is every year) and most importantly retained almost every client (80-90% of our revenue is repeat business) as well as adding some important and welcome new ones such as SEB bank and Elion.
This success would not have been achieved without the commitment and high quality work of all the people on our great team but especially Tõnis Hinnosaar and Kris Keerov M IDM.
As a result the various altex shareholders unanimously approved to appoint Kris and Tõnis to the board and also give them shares in the company as a recognition of the faith and trust held in them and their abilities.
Tõnis is Head of Operations in Estonia and specialises, extremely successfully, in web analytics : Measuring and improving the performance of clients’ banner advertising campaigns and websites.

Kris splits most of her her time between marketing (including handling Eturundus! events) and managing major projects for key clients. She is also the first Estonian person to become a member of the international Institute of Direct Marketing.

Tõnis and Kris will play a key role in satisfying clients, engaging new team members (get in touch if you want to work with us), maintaining ambitious financial growth and keeping us ahead of the competitors that are sure to emerge this year (2008)
My (Robin) own role is changing (although I still focus on key clients projects) : expansion to Latvia, UK and Lithuania; Investor and partner relations; and business development strategy for our main activities:
altex marketing - European internet marketing agency based in Tallinn, London & Riga
Spindo Club (see www.spindo.eu)
AngloEstonian (an umbrella projects building bridges between digital media sectors in Uk and Estonia)
Eturundus! emarketing events
PS We have some other plans for 2008 but don’t want to spill the beans yet…watch this space….
PPS The only bad thing about appointing Kris and Tõnis to join me on the board is that they can now outvote me !! I had better watch out ![]()
AngloEstonian launch on YouTube and Flickr
Anneli Kimber from the Estonian Embassy in London posted this short report about the AngloEstonian launch event.
A few photos taken by Henri (Inspiral/Wiseman) are on show too.
Some more photos are on Flickr, maybe more will follow.
But perhaps most interesting of all are the YouTube videos of the 5 speakers (about 5 minutes each) :
Dr Margus Laidre, Estonian Ambassador to UK
Malthe Sigurdsson, Skype Creative Director
Sam Michel, Chinwag Director
Jason Boorman, Blue Barracuda Director
and yours truly.
Enjoy and have a nice weekend too
here’s Dr Laidre to get you started:
OKIA and Apprise join AngloEstonian
OKIA (Ok Interactive) and Apprise are the latest companies to be approved to join AngloEstonian.
Obviously AngloEstonian is catching the imagination in Estonia and the strength of the team is growing.
Over the next few months we will decide what’s best going forward.
One area we are looking at is converting AngloEstonian into a more formal association of Estonian New media Exporters (at the moment its owned and run by altex)
AngloEstonian Launch Party Report
Thanks to Dr Margus Laidre, The Estonian Ambassador to the UK, and his team the AngloEstonian launch was a friendly, buzzy and apparently pretty successful little event.
Another special thank you must go to the speakers Malthe Sigurdsson (Skype), Sam Michel (Chinwag) and Jason Boorman (Blue Barracuda) who set the tone perfectly.
I know personally that (already) a number of high value, concrete and serious and deals are now possible, even probable, directly as a result of the meeting.
I am aware of one deal being closed already too.
And that’s down to the quality, not the quantity, the agency representatives who came.
These deals include short and long term outsourcing, setting up production arms and, as humbly predicted in my speech, acquisition interest - Estonian New Media sector has increased its footprint, in London anyway
Videos of the opening speeches by Dr Margus Laidre, Malthe, Sam, Jason and myself will go up to YouTube, photos to Flickr
- we announce when they are ready here.
Äripäev were there and got some interviews so watch out for the story…
Tõnis Hinnosaar uus tegevjuht Eestis
Alates juunist on siinkirjutaja tegelenud altexi Eesti esinduse juhtimisega, minu kätte on usaldatud ports olulisi ülesandeid ja antud võimalus firmat arendada ja uutesse kaugustesse suunata. Loomulikult pole Robin kuhugi kadunud, endiselt on ta altexi projektidega tihedalt seotud ja saab nüüdsest rohkem Inglismaa suunale keskenduda.
Lisaks tiimi ja erinevate projektide juhtimisele, jätkan endiselt Eturundus! ürituste organiseerimise ja veebianalüütika alase tegevusega.

Estonia: ahead of America? Eesti…Eesti…
In a recent previous post I talked about Lois Kelly’s visit to Estonia.
Well, the result was a blog post from her which has, perhaps not surprisingly, “started a conversation”.
“It’s pretty wild to think that most States and cities in the US - which are still stuck on looking for catchy tag lines and not-so-fresh “identities” to attract tourists and industry just got trumped by little old Estonia. (Las Vegas being the most notable exception.)”
Seminar: Great Britain - Entering the global IT market
Seminar: Great Britain - Entering the global IT market
Estonian foreign direct investment has mainly been to neighbouring countries such as Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine and to a lesser extent Sweden and Finland. Close neighbouring countries are an obvious point for outward investment as Estonia’s growth is limited to the geographical size of the country and number of potential customers here.
Estonian IT companies have proven track of being very competitive and well equipped with skills, know-how, and products and services. With a deregulated, dynamic economy, skilled workforce, world-class R&D and an attractive tax regime, the United Kingdom business environment offers every opportunity for Estonian companies to make use of their competitive edge and take advantage of the truly global economy of the UK.
The UK Trade & Investment, together with its partners in Estonia and in the UK, can help those businesses to make the most of the opportunities offered by the UK market and help Estonian companies to go further and faster.
OBJECTIVE:
- Talk about opportunities in the UK Information Technology sector;
- Cover topics like establishing a company in the UK, UK tax regime, financial issues with setting up, involving external funds;
- Share experiences of a current investor to the UK market and lessons learnt;
- Introduce the UK Trade & Investment and Enterprise Estonia and their services to Estonian companies.
DATE: 06 June 2006
AUDIENCE: Seminar targeted to the audience of 40 people of primarily IT companies interested in expanding their international grasp of business to the UK market and turning the presence in the international business environment into a competitive advantage.
VENUE: Enterprise Estonia, Liivalaia 13/15, Tallinn
SEMINAR LANGUAGE: English & Estonian
REGISTER: Contact UKTI.Tallinn@fco.gov.uk or tel. 6674700 by 04 June 2006.

internet export marketing blog is born
Thanks for dropping by.
Welcome.
My name is Robin Gurney and I am a founding partner of altex marketing, a European internet marketing agency, based in Tallinn, Estonia.
If you export goods or services and are interested about how to take better advantage of the internet then this blog is for you.
You will encounter as little techno-babble as possible, I am a businessman with a passion for internet marketing, not a technologist.
Because I work in Tallinn (capital of Estonia) most of the information is aimed at Estonian exporters.
However I hope it gives value to anyone exporting from the European Union. .
